About Robyn Mearsley

The ideas for the Becksleigh Canal series originated from impressions I gained during a recent visit (from Australia, where I live) to parts of rural England and Wales. This trip conjured up memories of schoolday learnings about the great era of canal construction in Britain during the Industrial Revolution.

At first, I planned to write one book only, a Regency historical romance entitled ‘A Gentleman Unknown’. But as soon as I finished this book, I started on the second - ‘An Unwelcome Distraction’. And there is another book planned, the third and final in the series (title unknown at this stage). I hope to publish this in early 2026.

The history of the golden age of canal building in Britain is rich in conflict and drama, and has provided me with a perfect backdrop for these historically-based—but fictional—romances.
